Currently, there are not many pure electric models in the million-yuan range, among which those already in mass production and on the market include the Porsche Taycan, Tesla Model S and Model X, GMC Hummer EV, and Mercedes-Benz EQS. Now there is another pure electric luxury SUV that has already been launched overseas - the Polestar 3. The pricing of its two dual-motor versions in China is 880,000 yuan and 1.03 million yuan respectively.

The Polestar 3 is expected to make its China debut early next year and begin deliveries within next year. For the Polestar brand, whose sales and brand influence were not very prominent to begin with, is the pricing of such an important model too confident?

On November 28, the safety and health technologies of the Polestar 3 were further revealed. Judging from the various configurations, Polestar has indeed equipped this significant new model with more exclusive features, such as eye-tracking technology, Luminar LiDAR, and in-car radar sensors, demonstrating the uniqueness of this million-yuan-class luxury pure electric model.

The Polestar 3 has a wheelbase of 2,985 mm and body dimensions of 4,900×1,968×1,627 mm. It has a five-door, five-seat layout and is positioned as a luxury high-performance sporty mid-to-large SUV. In terms of styling, as shown in the pictures, it has the distinctive simple and crisp design characteristics of the Polestar brand, including a relatively squared-off front face, a wide body, and a fastback rear design.

In terms of power, both Polestar 3 models are dual-motor, namely the Long Range Dual Motor version and the Performance Dual Motor version. Among them, the Long Range Dual Motor version has a maximum power of 360 kW, maximum torque of 840 N·m, CLTC range of 670 km, and 0-100 km/h acceleration in 5 seconds; the Performance Dual Motor version has a maximum power of 380 kW, maximum torque of 910 N·m, CLTC range of 620 km, and 0-100 km/h acceleration in 4.7 seconds.

From the perspective of power performance, the Polestar 3 does not hold much of an advantage among million-yuan-class pure electric models.

Rather than pursuing performance, the Polestar 3's main advantages are concentrated in two major areas: safety and health. Among them, in terms of passive safety, the Polestar 3's body uses ultra-high-strength boron steel, which is 4 times stronger than high-strength steel and can withstand pressure of more than 10 tons per square centimeter (this should originate from Volvo).

On the other hand, the airbags in the Polestar 3 can complete inflation and deflation in just 8 milliseconds. That is, within the 180 milliseconds of a single human blink, the Polestar 3's airbags can deploy 22.5 times.

In terms of active safety, the Polestar 3 is equipped with NVIDIA's DRIVE central processing unit, which can process data from multiple sensors and cameras at high speed and can run in real time the deep-perception neural interaction and applications required for autonomous driving, while also having ample computing power redundancy.

On the basis of the high-performance central processing unit, the Pilot Assist system equipped on the Polestar 3 integrates efficient sensing systems from Zenseact, Luminar, and Smart Eye. The entire vehicle comes standard with 5 radars, 5 exterior cameras, and 12 ultrasonic sensors, enabling comprehensive exterior safety protection with no blind spots.

The previously mentioned Luminar LiDAR has higher precision and longer range detection, and can accurately provide the shape and size of obstacles for the vehicle at night or in severe weather, perfectly compensating for the detection weaknesses of vision and millimeter-wave radar.

Unlike ordinary fatigue driving reminder systems, the in-car sensing system installed in the Polestar 3 is more refined than facial recognition. Its debut Smart Eye advanced eye-tracking technology uses two driver status monitoring cameras inside the vehicle to monitor the driver's state in real time. In addition to detecting drowsiness, when the driver is distracted such as playing with a mobile phone while driving, the system will also issue warning signals and warning sounds, and may even trigger emergency braking. Moreover, compared with a single camera, dual cameras can avoid possible misjudgments caused by lighting, angle, or other factors.

This function means that your Polestar 3 will give a very timely warning when you play with your phone while driving. The Polestar 3 is probably also the first and only new car that "disables mobile phone use while driving" - although there are laws and regulations restricting drivers from using mobile phones while driving, it still happens despite repeated prohibitions, so the editor of Qicheliu really especially hopes more drivers will buy the Polestar 3...

In terms of health, the Polestar 3 uses a large amount of environmentally friendly materials to build the cabin, including seats, center console, armrests, and many other materials made with the bio-based environmentally friendly material MicroTech, which balances both luxury texture and health and environmental requirements. In particular, the eco-friendly interior fabric even meets baby-level skin contact standards.

At the same time, the Polestar 3 is also equipped with an advanced air purifier jointly developed by Polestar, CabinAir, and Volvo - the AAC dual-effect enhanced air purification system. This air purification system achieves three-layer filtration by discharging air inside the vehicle: the first layer filters large particulate pollutants such as dust from outside the vehicle; the second layer filters fine dust, mold spores, and allergens; the third layer filters harmful gases, including viruses, pollen, and so on. The official statement says that this air purification system continuously refreshes the air inside the vehicle once per minute, and even in smoggy weather it can still ensure that occupants breathe fresh, oxygen-rich air.

In addition to the above unique features, the Polestar 3 is also equipped with an in-car radar sensor. This submillimeter-level motion monitoring sensor can prevent infants or pets from accidentally being locked in the car. Even if a child or pet is locked inside, this system will also start the in-car air conditioning to prevent occupants from heatstroke or hypothermia.

In terms of other luxury technology equipment, the Polestar 3 also comes fully equipped with 1.3-million-pixel high-definition LED lights, the Bowers & Wilkins premium audio system, a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror, a 14.5-inch vertically oriented high-definition smart large screen, a HUD head-up display, active air suspension, and a 30-minute fast-charging system.

In summary, do you still think the Polestar 3's pricing is expensive?
